Comprehensive Sexuality Education for
Developmentally Disabled Youth Ages 12+
Course Outline
Because we are always improving our curricula, this outline provides a general idea of the topics covered but is not a rigid lesson plan. Here are the outcome objectives:
Session 1: Privacy, Touch and Anatomy
Session 1: Privacy, Touch and Anatomy
- Students will understand the different between public and private.
- Students will understand that males and females have different reproductive organs.
- Students will learn the correct anatomical names for male genitals and female genitals.
- Students will understand that when children go through puberty their reproductive systems are able to cause a pregnancy.
- Students will understand that when sperm get inside a female’s vagina, they can cause a pregnancy.
- Students will understand that masturbation is a private activity and should happen in a private place.
- Students will understand that STI/STD’s can be spread through genital skin to genital/mouth skin contact or by sharing fluids like semen, vaginal fluids, pre-cum and blood.
- Students will understand that when people are sexually active, the best way to tell if they have an infection is to get tested.
- Students will understand that abstinence, condoms and dental dams will reduce their risk for getting and STI/STD during sexual activity.
- Students will understand that people can be attracted to others of the same sex or opposite sex.
- Students will understand that all relationships require communication and respect.
- Students will learn how to get out of an unhealthy situation or relationship.
