Comprehensive Sexuality Education
7th and 8th Grades
Course Outline
Because we are always improving our curricula, this outline provides a general idea of the topics covered but is not a rigid lesson plan. Here are the outcome objectives:
Session 1: Anatomy and Physiology
Session 2: Communication and Sexuality
Session 3: Sexually Transmitted Infections, HIV and Risk
Session 4: Birth Control and Risk Reduction
Session 5: Sexual Decision Making
Session 1: Anatomy and Physiology
- Students will be able to identify and label 3 parts of vulva anatomy and 3 parts of the reproductive anatomy.
- Students will be able to define erections, ejaculations and menstruation.
- Students will be able to list 3 commonalities between bodies and 3 differences between penis and vulva having bodies.
- Students will understand variation in human biology and understand that some people are intersex.
Session 2: Communication and Sexuality
- Students will understand that sex can mean different behaviors to different people.
- Students will be able to identify 3 elements of sexuality and 3 outside influences that affect sexuality.
- Students will learn that gender roles, expectations and social pressures can negatively affect someone’s decisions about sex and sexuality.
Session 3: Sexually Transmitted Infections, HIV and Risk
- Students will be able to identify and describe the modes of transmission.
- Students will be able to identify 3 common STI’s and the ways they are transmitted, tested, treated and prevented.
- Students will understand that everybody that is sexually active is at risk for getting an STI.
- Students will be able to define the word treatable and curable, and understand that all STI’s are treatable and some are curable.
Session 4: Birth Control and Risk Reduction
- Students will learn 3 methods that provide STI and Pregnancy risk reduction.
- Students will be able to identify important steps for putting on a condom correctly.
- Students will be able to discern which definition of abstinence is 100% effective in preventing pregnancy and STI’s.
Session 5: Sexual Decision Making
- Students will understand how communication can be used in relationships and sexual situations.
- Students will learn 3 characteristics of a healthy relationship and 3 characteristics of an unhealthy relationship.
- Students will be able to list different decisions someone could make about sex and sexual activity and possible outcomes of said decisions.
- Students will understand the meaning of consent and permission.

Session 1: Anatomy and Physiology

Issues are discussed that surround sexuality, anatomy and health such as “thinking about the future”, “feeling romantic”, “menstruation” III. Anatomy and Physiology Review a. Labeling parts and review of Path of Egg and Sperm b. Parts i. Uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, vagina, vulva, clitoris, labia, vaginal opening, urethra, anus ii. Bladder, urethra, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate gland, testicles, scrotum, penis, anus c. Systems i. Path of the sperm ii. Path of the egg iii. Pregnancy iv. Menstruation v. Discussion: Abstinence a. Review of a definition of abstinence that is 100% effective V. Birth Control and Safer Sex and Gender Confirmation a. Review of Safer Sex Methods and Birth Control Methods/Understand that some of these same tools can be used for gender confirmation for transgender people. i. Abstinence ii.
