6th and 7th Grades
Course Outline
Because we are always improving our curricula, this outline provides a general idea of the topics covered but is not a rigid lesson plan. Here are the outcome objectives:
Session 1: Puberty, Hygiene and Being Normal
Session 2: The Body and Changes
Session 3: Boundaries, Consent and Communication
Session 4: STI and Pregnancy Risk
Session 1: Puberty, Hygiene and Being Normal
- Students will learn 3 physical changes that everyone goes through during puberty.
- Students will learn 3 ways to take care of their hygiene.
- Students will learn that puberty changes happen at different times and in different ways for everyone, and that is normal.
Session 2: The Body and Changes
- Students will know what two things can cause a pregnancy.
- Students will be able to list 2 changes that occur for folx with a penis.
- Students will be able to list 2 changes that happen for people with a vulva.
Session 3: Boundaries, Consent and Communication
- Students will learn who owns their body.
- Students will understand the meaning of consent and permission.
- Students will be able to list two trusted adults is in their life.
Session 4: STI and Pregnancy Risk
- Students will understand that everybody that is sexually active is at risk for getting an STI.
- Students will understand the risks for pregnancy and STI’s.
- Students will learn 3 methods that provide STI and Pregnancy risk reduction.

Session 1: Puberty, Hygiene and Being Normal
I. Introduction a. Agreements b. Anonymous Question Box II. What is Puberty? a. Definition of Puberty b. Icebreaker activity that introduces communication to a trusted adult III. Puberty Changes a. Introduction to puberty changes that happen for most people. i. These may include: pimples, growth, mood swings, attractions and sexual or “tingly” feelings, Body Odor IV. Discussion: Hygiene a. Basic Hygiene information for puberty youth V. Emotional Changes a. Information about Hormones and Feelings VI. Conclusion: a. Review Objectives b. Answering questions anonymously Examples of anonymous questions: Do you have to go through puberty? Why do tingly feelings happen? How often can you wash your privates? |
Session 2: The Body and Changes
I. Introduction a. Address compassion II. Review: Changes a. Review changes specific to penis having people i. this may include: breast growth, penis and testicle growth, erections, ejaculations, deeper voice, facial hair, broader shoulders, larger voice box b. Review of changes specific to vulva having people i. breast growth, vulva and clitoris growth, vaginal fluids, menstruation, blood flow/erections of vulva, wider hips III. Review of Anatomy a. Folks with a Penis i. Visual Review of Parts of the Reproductive system: 1. testicles, vas deferens, Cowper’s gland, prostate, seminal vesicles, rectum ii. Visual Review of genitals 1. scrotum, penis, circumcised or uncircumcised glans, urethral opening, perineum and anus b. Vulva having people i. Genitals: vulva, anus, labia, vaginal opening, urethral opening, clitoris, perineum ii. Reproductive System: vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, fimbria IV. Path of the Sperm and the Egg a. Review of Paths b. Reasons why ejaculations may happen: sexual feelings, sexual activity with another, masturbation, wet dreams. c. Pregnancy V.
